Practice, Philosophy and Experience
My massage is therapeutic with an emphasis on:
- Deep Tissue
- Trigger Point Massage
- Myofascial Release
- Myoskeletal Alignment
- Sports Massage
I enjoy working with both performance athletes and every day people who have specific issues. I also focus on bridging the gap between a therapeutic massage and a relaxing, Swedish massage. The sooner a person relaxes, the sooner their body is able to incorporate healing. I wait for the tissue to soften and let me in instead of forcing something that is not ready to open up. This usually enables me to access deeper layers of muscle that can be the source of pain or discomfort.
I have had a series of unique and special job experiences as a Massage Therapist. From the luxury spas of Aspen, CO to a health institute that specializes in rehabilitation and maintenance for professional athletes, to a Chiropractic and Acupuncture clinic in San Francisco, my work experience has helped me to be a well-rounded and uniquely experienced practitioner.
I Love Helping People
Why Massage Therapy? Because I love helping people and have experienced first-hand how massage therapy can dramatically improve the quality of your life. I am fascinated by the human body. It never ceases to amaze me what our bodies are capable of every day on a physiological level. I also feel passionately about providing an alternative form of health care for individuals who would like to avoid invasive procedures or prescription medications if possible. Massage Therapy is one of many great alternatives that has documented health benefits.
A native of Redding, CA, I grew up playing in the mountains and rivers in the very northern part of the Central Valley. I studied Environmental Education and Spanish at California State University, Chico where my love for the outdoors blossomed while leading rafting and backpacking adventures for CSU, Chico students.
After college, I went on to manage a volunteer, conservation-based rafting program and later worked to reform California Hydropower Dam policy in order to help keep California rivers healthy. After 5 years in the conservation world,I decided I wanted to explore my dual fascination of the human body and holistic health. Shortly thereafter I attended school to become a Massage Therapist.
I practiced massage in San Francisco and later relocated to Aspen, CO for a few years before moving back to Chico. It still feels like home to me here after being gone for eight years. I am looking forward to sinking some roots and enjoying this wonderful community!
